The Lovely Juliet
I decided to focus on the many faces and depictions of Juliet in the world Today. I’ve always been enamored by Juliet, less by her character (although I still find her extremely intriguing), but more of the idea of her, of what she represents (a kind of love and all that), and how she’s been portrayed and interpreted by a score of directors, painters, animators, pornographers, actresses, etc.

Just curious, where did you get the solo pic of Juliet wearing what looks like a man’s coat and the modern-looking one where Romeo has glasses?
If not for this post, I would not know that we have Filipina Juliet’s 🙂 I suppose those Mylene Dizon and Alex de Rossi’s portrayals were from an…independent movie? Because as far as I remember, I’ve never heard of a Filipino adaptation of R and J, or any other plays by Shakespeare. Juliet, as seen in your photo gallery is mostly depicted as a lady with oozing sensuality. Do you think she would still appeal to the viewers/readers/consumers if not for her oh-so-charming looks, and if we’d just look into her character? 🙂
The one with Mylene Dizon and Andrea del Rosario comes from Rome & Juliet, which is yes, an indie film. 🙂 Do check that out, I’ve heard it puts a saucy new spin on the story.
And personally, I’d still like Juliet even if she weren’t pretty and charming because if you think about it, she’s the more level-headed in their relationship even though (I think) she’s younger so kudos to her.
